Spring Flowers

Today marks 4 years since we lost our lovely cocker spaniel Jake, but what I love about visiting his resting place, is the daffodils and hyacinths that come out each year for his anniversary. They are so bright and fresh, just like Jake was bright eyed and bushy tailed, demanding your attention as they are so beautiful - just like he demanded our attention to throw a toy. His memorial, made by my stonemason husband, has 'Jakes song' written on it, and an etching of his favourite toy - a tennis ball! Miss you little lad, send me a rainbow.

Happy 100th Birthday!

We have received an order to deliver flowers to a lady who is 100 years old! The bouquet has been ordered from her carers and has been requested in yellows and pinks. We took great delight in preparing this bouquet, and we all tried to claim legitimate reasons why each one of us should deliver it. Along with the flowers we sent out a complimentary box of luxury chocolates - well! its not every day you deliver to a lady who's 100 years old! Congratulations!

Another lovely bouquet today was for a 28th Wedding Anniversary, and the gentleman specifically requested orchids in the bouquet, as orchids are the symbol for 28 years. It was a beautiful modern arrangement with white orchids, curly bamboo, white lilies, pink roses, molucella, trachelium and veronica wrapped in a modern black fabric collar and tied with raffia. All the girls and early customers admired it.

Work & Play........

Hmmmm.......lots of work to do and we're attending a show today. Against my initial thoughts not to go to the show, I decide to go having missed the last two due to work, but leave early, as there are funeral flowers to complete for delivery tomorrow afternoon. This way I still get to compete with my lovely lad, but get the work done too!

It turned out to be worth it, as our oldest but smallest weimaraner Millie, got first place!! We are so pleased, my husband has been running her in agility for two years and has waited for this day to come for what seems like an eternity! She is now 7 years old, a rescue who came to us at 3.5 years old with lots of problems, the smallest of our weims with the biggest attitude. My husband is so proud of her after all she's been through. Well done Missy Moo! My lad Fynn and I, got 8th place - not bad, this is our first year.

I went into the shop afterwards and prepared works to be completed tomorrow. A very productive day.

Anniversary Bouquet

A young gentleman came in the shop today to order anniversary flowers for his wife to be delivered on Saturday. He tells me he would like white lilies, pink lilies and gerberas. Astonishingly he recalls to me that those were the flowers she had in her wedding bouquet!

Snowing again!

A few last minute bouquets meant we closed a little later tonight, and the snow was coming down thick and fast as we made our way home. Looks like the 4x4 will be out delivering again tomorrow, just to ensure the deliveries go out without any problems.

One of the last minute bouquets was to a gentleman about to travel back to Derbyshire to his wife, and unfortunately his journey was made a little later due to him having to wait in the queue to be served. I hope he got home safely and the flowers did the trick.........

Chocolates........Thank YOU!

A gentleman brings in a box of Milk Tray chocolates for the girls, as a thank you for the wonderful flowers we prepared for his mothers funeral, and for the help we gave him when choosing the flowers. How thoughtful.
We prepare grave flowers for an elderly gentleman who lost his wife three years ago. Unfortunately he is housebound and cannot visit the grave regularly, and therefore asked us to prepare fresh flowers and place them on the grave every three weeks . We have been providing this service for over 2 years. Today we've used iris, pink carnation and purple liatris - these colours will look cheery and vibrant against the York Stone memorial in the winter sunshine, especially for other family members to see when visiting the grave. My husband delivers the flowers to the grave, removing the grave pots we filled last time, and brings them back to the shop to be cleaned and refilled with fresh flowers again in three weeks time. Your flowers have been placed 'Mr H' - I'm not being anonymous here, the flowers are always signed 'From Your Loving Husband, Mr H x'

Romantic Gestures..............

A young man came into the shop today, explaining that he would like a bouquet for his girlfriend. I ask if its her birthday or other special occasion, or maybe a simple 'sorry!' and he goes on to tell me that he would like some flowers as they have been together two months today and she wouldn't be expecting it. What a wonderful thought. I reply by saying she must be special if he wants to let her know how much he appreciates her after just two months. Whilst we chat, I make up a beautiful bouquet in water, boxed and wrapped. He leaves the shop and I note what a lovely, thoughtful young man he is - whoever the recipient is, she's one lucky lady. This type of romantic gesture must surely be encouraged!

Zoomies!

A gorgeous sunny day, we take to the woods with our dogs Millie, Fynn and Cleo for a good walk with a friend and his dog, Bruno, all weimaraners, three of which are rescues from various places. The dogs are in and out of the trees, chasing each other, jumping over logs and competing for the biggest stick and the smelliest scent. They are so busy, half the time we have to shout over to tell them 'this way!'. They zoom over to us and then straight past, nose already down to the floor tracking the next scent. I love returning home with tired dogs. Tired dogs - happy dogs!

Single Rose Tribute

A lady came in for a single rose for her brothers funeral tomorrow in Skegness. I take a rose in full bloom, place it against a stem of leatherleaf to give support and wrap in cellophane and tie with red curling ribbon so it flows down. The lady comments how beautiful it looks, and I am pleased that she leaves the shop with a simple, yet stunning token to place on her brothers grave.

Snow deliveries!

The snow has been making it almost impossible to get around in the van so we've been using my 4x4 to deliver the flowers. One delivery was to an elderly lady in Wheatley who was the recipient of a birthday bouquet from her son in Jersey. The lady and her husband chatted with me for a while at the door, and she was amazed that I knew where her son lived! She was also delighted that he remembered not to include lilies in her bouquet as she doesn't like the smell.

The shop opens today for the first time in 2010!

There are orders to fulfil - a birthday, get well flowers and a sunflower funeral tribute. The recipient of the birthday bouquet was for a young girl in Bentley who was delighted to receive a delivery of flowers on her birthday. I wondered if it was the first time she had ever received flowers, making her feel so grown up. She was so happy, I almost felt like it was me that made her feel special!

The funeral tribute was requested by a lady who's friend had passed away just before Christmas, and her friend adored this big, bold flower. The sunflowers are perfect as they are big, bold and beautiful, and look even more naturally so when teamed with bupleurum and tied with raffia.
